Bengaluru: The anti-narcotics wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) busted a gang that allegedly used chemistry to con people into believing pieces of a special black paper could be turned into currency notes.

Following a raid at a house in Hennur police station limits, the CCB claimed to have confiscated bogus currency notes worth Rs 1.1 crore. However, the police added that the persons involved in the racket are currently on the run. The police have launched a manhunt to identify the perpetrators.

Speaking to News Trail, sources from Hennur police station said that the CCB personnel had received a tip-off from their sources regarding a gang selling counterfeit currency notes in exchange for real cash. The sources also said that the unidentified persons, bitten by the get-richquick bug, used chemically coated black papers cut into the shape of a Rs 500 currency note before selling and allegedly circulating them into the market.

The police have also seized several laminated papers where solutions were to be applied for demonstration, bottles of chemicals, including sodium thiosulphate solution, and several bundles of iodidecoated black paper in the shape of Rs 500 currency note.
