Think twice before you hand over your car keys for parking to a security guard at hotels and restaurants. A person in Bengaluru recently lost his four-wheeler after handing over the keys to the parking valet of a restaurant.
The incident took place near McGrath road in Ashok Nagar police station limits. The car, Innova Crysta, belonged to one Lingaraju, 26, son of a Bengaluru-based businessman, residing in Banashankari 2nd stage.
“On November 5, Lingaraju along with his friend visited the restaurant to have a meal. He handed over the keys to the security guard at the hotel parking lot and received a token with the car number mentioned in it,” police said.
In a complaint filed with the police, Lingaraju alleged that while he was in the restaurant some unknown miscreants, pretending to be the car owners, appeared at the parking valet and asked for his car keys. The security personnel, without any verification, handed over the keys to them. When Lingaraju came out of the hotel, he was shocked to see his car gone. A case has been registered against the parking valets of the restaurant. “While nothing can be said at the moment, it may be possible that the miscreants might have followed and observed the car owner before committing the theft,” the police added.
They also suspect that the theft may have happened with the connivance of security guards. The police are investigating all the angles.
