Automobile company terminates 150 employees without notice

Allegations of inhuman working conditions, arrears of salary raised by the union

Bengaluru: Yazaki India Private Limited, a Japanese automobile company having its factory in Nelamangala, recently terminated more than 150 employees illegally without even serving a notice.

The workers both existing and terminated, protested under the banner of AICCTU (All India Central Council of Trade Unions), in front of the company gate. The protestors have deemed the termination illegal, as they were not provided a notice before being laid off.

Along with this, they have highlighted other issues that were rampant when they were employed by Yazaki, such as their salaries not meeting the mandates of the Minimum Wages Act, the lack of DA, gratuity and paid sick leaves.

“The workers were made to work in illegal and inhuman conditions. They had to carry out three shifts consecutively at instances, which makes their working hours 24 in total,” informed Aratrika from AISA (All India Students Association) who had joined the protest in solidarity.

The protestors had a talk with the Deputy Labour Commissioner last week but the discussion has not resulted in anything conclusive. The protestors have decided to continue their agitation outside the gates of Yazaki until the next meeting scheduled on Thursday.
