Bengaluru: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said that while prompt treatment was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s brother, Prahlad when he met with an accident in Mysuru whereas commoners are ignored in similar cases. The party added that there had been 36 deaths in at least 65 accidents in the last three months in the state.
AAP leader and senior Supreme Court lawyer Brijesh Kalappa said: “The government is not concerned with the common people plying on the road but serves only VIPs. The government was steadfast when it comes to the treatment of Prahlad Modi, brother of the Prime Minister after he was injured in a mishap on the Mysuru-Nanjangudu route. The tragedy of the current government is that it does not even acknowledge the deaths of common commuters on the same 10-lane Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway.”
“Based on various reports, at the least 65 accidents have taken place in the last three months which have led to at least 36 deaths. It is not right on the part of the government to play with the lives of the people,” Kalappa added.
“An expert committee should be constituted at the earliest to inspect the highway and based on its report, the loopholes should be rectified,” he said. Kalappa said that the Belagavi border dispute merited an all-party meet. “The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah who will be on a three-day visit to the state starting December 29, should call for an all-party meeting, including the Aam Aadmi Party to discuss the Belagavi border dispute issue.
Even though, BJP boasts of a ‘triple-engine’ government at the Center, Karnataka and Maharashtra, they are turning a blind eye on the plight of Belagavi and Karnataka. Shah should take this opportunity to resolve the issue by taking all parties into confidence,” Kalappa concluded.
