Woman attacked with sulphuric acid
A jilted lover attacked a woman with corrosive acid in Sunkadakatte on April 28. The accused, Nagesh Babu, who was waiting in an autorickshaw near the workplace of the survivor in Sunkadakatte, chased and poured acid on her. He was later nabbed from an ashram in Tiruvannamalai by the Bengaluru police after a search of 15 days. The police said that the accused had donned the disguise of a Swamiji to evade arrest and had been hiding in the ashram.
Gang smashes man’s head with stones
Seven persons were arrested for killing a man by smashing his head with stones on December 3. The deceased, Manjunath Balappa Jamkhandi, was brutally killed by seven persons including three women for allegedly stalking a married woman in Kempapura Agrahara. The accused were later revealed to be the relatives of the woman. The horrifi c incident had been captured by a nearby CCTV camera, through which the KP Agrahara police identified the accused.
‘No money to feed’:
Techie kills his 2-year-old daughter A debt-ridden man drowned his two-and-a-halfyear-old daughter on November 15. Techie, Rahul Parmar, hailing from Gujarat, was arrested for allegedly drowning his two-anda-half-year-old daughter in a lake in Kolar district. He initially had gone missing after borrowing money from private moneylenders.
The police found Parmar’s car parked near a lake and later recovered his daughter’s body from the water. Rahul Parmar however was arrested by the police while he was returning to the city from Agra.
Dalit woman burnt to death by ‘upper-caste boyfriend’
A 23-year-old woman was allegedly burnt to death at an isolated place in Electronic City on March 15. Daneshwari, a Dalit, was allegedly burnt to death by her ‘upper caste’ boyfriend Shivakumar. The family of the deceased had fi led a complaint at Electronic City Police Station. It was alleged that the Daneshwari and Shivakumar were in love for around 4 to 5 years during their college.
However, the relationship turned sour after the girl compelled her boyfriend to marry her. The deceased was the daughter of a sub-tahsildar of Talikoti taluk of Vijayapura district and a native of Sindagi.
Dentist throws 4-year-old daughter to death
A dentist allegedly threw her fouryear-old daughter from the fourth fl oor of her apartment on August 4. The news shocked Bengaluru to its core after the police arrested Sushma Bharadwaj, a nonpracticing dentist, for allegedly tossing her daughter, Dhruthi, from her apartment.\
During interrogation, the woman claimed that it was an accident and she too had lost balance but the neighbours rescued her before falling from the balcony. However, after scanning the CCTV footage, it was revealed that the woman had acted to have lost balance to avoid coming into suspicion.
Man sets his son on fire over financial dispute
A 51-year-old businessman, Surendra Kumar, was arrested for setting his son, Arpit, on fire outside his own residence in Valmiki Nagar on April 7. A nearby CCTV camera captured Kumar pouring thinner on his son and then setting him on fi re using a matchstick.
Engulfed in fire, Arpit was seen running around the neighbourhood. He died later at the hospital. It was revealed that Arpit had discontinued his education and showed very little interest in his father’s fi nance business. Upset with his naive attitude, Kumar set him on fi re.
