Working with civic agencies to ensure safe, smooth commute: MA Saleem

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) is working with civic agencies to ensure the safety of motorists in the city.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the Special Commissioner of Police, Traffic, MA Saleem said that the number of accidents in the city decreased in 2022 compared to the last five years. Saleem said that 3827 accident cases were reported in 2022. During the lockdown years in 2021 and 2020, the accidents were reported as 3213 and 3236.

In 2019, 4684 cases had been reported; in 2018, the number of reported accidents was 4611, he said. "Necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safe and smooth movement of vehicles, and we are identifying the areas with traffic congestion in the city," Saleem added.

He explained that more cases had been registered against traffic violators using AI technology for traffic management and a fine of Rs 179.25 crore was imposed until November's end.

He said that despite the increasing number of vehicles, the city traffic police are sincerely trying to solve the traffic issues and prevent accidents with the support of the latest technology.
