Bengaluru: The residents of the second and fifth b locks of Jayanagar gathered on the 100 feet ring road to protest against the road closures put up by the Bangalore Traffic police on Wednesday morning.
A large group of people collectively shouted slogans and held banners. Some of the protestors in a fit of rage attacked a couple of civil police personnel stationed to maintain law and order, during the procession. The police nabbed the offender and took him in custody.
The road closure at Sampige circle and Vijay circle have become a problem for the residents living in the second and fifth blocks of Jayanagar.
''The road closure left us with no choice but to cover an extra distance of 4kms in order to take a U-turn. On top of it , he pubs and bars in the area have a noisy floating population, especially on the weekend which makes the locality unsafe for women and children, ” Jayshree Gowda, a resident of the fifth block said.
“Before the school buses commuted easily, now they are stuck in a traffic jam due to the closure. It has become inconvenient even for the children living in these blocks,” She added, The area is renowned for its rush hour traffic and as per the traffic department the decision to close roads was taken to reduce the inflow of traffic in the area but the residents think otherwise. The civil police were finding it hard to manage the group of protestors in the midst of traffic.
