Bengaluru: In yet another case of an alleged lapse of security at a prestigious college in the city, Jayanagar police have filed a case against an unidentified youth for allegedly sneaking into the women's toilet inside the college premise. The matter was reported to the police on Wednesday after the students gathered to protest against the management citing lack of adequate security in the college.

However the protest was called off after the management assured the students of necessary measures to strengthen the security inside the campus. The incident reportedly took place inside the Vijaya College premises after the gates opened around 8 am on Tuesday.

According to sources, a student who went inside the toilet on the fourth floor of the college building found an unidentified person who grabbed her hand and locked the door from inside. It is also alleged that the miscreant forcibly groped her and grasped her mouth to prevent her from raising an alarm.

However, the said student pushed him aside and ran outside screaming for help. As soon as the students heard the screams, they rushed to catch the culprit. However, he escaped the premises by pushing another girl student near the stairs.

The girl sustained minor injuries due to the fall, sources told News Trail. The student initially hesitated to inform the management about the incident. However, her friends persuaded her to bring the matter to the notice of the college authorities on Wednesday. It is suspected that the person had entered the toilet was not from the college.

The management registered a complaint with the jurisdictional police regarding the incident under section 354 of the IPC and a probe has been launched to identify the miscreant by scanning the CCTV cameras installed inside the college campus.

The incident came close on the heels of murder of a 19-year old student at another prestigious private university in the city last week. The students and parents have been raising concerns over the safety of students at the educational institutions.
