Bengaluru: A police sub-inspector and a constable have been reportedly assaulted by two men, including the general manager of an online food delivery platform, at Chikka Bettahalli in Yelahanka New Town police limits on Monday night.

Sub-inspector Srishaila and constable Aslam, attached to the Yelahanka New Town police station, got injured when a fight broke out after their patrolling bike grazed the suspects’ car.

Due to road repair work, one side was blocked for traffic and vehicles were allowed to move in both directions in the remaining part of the road. The patrolling bike grazed a car and the policemen offered apologies, but the car occupants started a fight.

The accused have been identified as Manoj, an engineer, and Dheeraj, the general manager of the online food delivery platform. The sub inspector was slapped and punched by the suspect. The other policeman was pushed to the road and the suspect grabbed the lathi from him and tried to beat the constable.

Onlookers intervened and tried to stop, but the two were in no mood to relent. The entire incident has been filmed by a few onlookers. One of the injured policemen had to undergo four stitches.

“The sub-inspector and his deputy who were on night rounds requested the suspects to move their car as it was affecting the movement of vehicles. Following the attack on them, the sub inspector called for backup. The policemen who also acted in self-defence managed to nab the two from the spot. The incident happened between 11 pm and 12 am on Monday night,” said a police officer.

Srishaila has filed a complaint in the Yelahanka New Town police station and both the suspects have been arrested. They have been charged with assaulting policemen on duty along with other sections of the Indian Penal Code.
