Police quarters near Binny Mill on verge of collapse

Bengaluru, Oct. 16

The 32-odd families living in the ‘B’ Block of the police quarters near Binny Mill Circle have had sleepless nights for over a week now. That was when the building they live in first began to tilt. Days have passed and City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant even paid them a visit, promising to shift them out of the place as soon as possible. Nothing has happened yet. Residents of the adjacent ‘C’ Block are nervous too, if ‘B’ block collapses, there will be consequences for everyone.

The police quarters, part of the Karnataka State Police Housing project, were built only three years ago, using what was touted to be sophisticated Japanese technology and a prefabricated design. This recent development has exposed the shoddy construction and presumably, sub-par building materials.

City Police Commissioner, Kamal Pant said alternate arrangements have been made for the affected families.
