'BBMP burning garbage, escalating air pollution'

Bengaluru: Garbage bur ning is punishable as a criminal offense under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, which authorises the state governments to ban the burning of any material causing air pollution.

However, in the city, the BBMP garbage trucks alone have been found burning garbage they have collected from various vicinities. The irresponsible and unscientific method of garbage disposal can be quite hazardous.

On Saturday, in Kengeri ward, on the main road leading from Kommaghatta to Visvesvaraya layout, garbage trucks of BBMP were found burning their collected waste.
