Metro barricade falling on car: BMRCL in denial mode

Second such incident in the past month

Bengaluru: A video of a car with a broken wind shield parked by a stretch of BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) barricades has been making rounds of the social media for what netizens claimed was the result of a barricade falling on a passing car.

The incident shown in the video and uploaded on the Twitter reportedly took place some distance away from the Doddanekundi junction, towards Mahadevapura on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

“There’s no end to this, how many more lives do you want to take,” a user wrote. However, the Managing Director of BMRCL, Anjum Parvez has denied that BMCL had anything to do with it. He said that the car crashed into the barricade. It is not the metro’s fault. This is the second such incident to take place in the month.

Previously, a 28-year-old woman and her two-year-old succumbed after bars of an under construction metro pillar collapsed on them on the Outer Ring Road alone. Weighing over several tonnes, a 40 feet pillar of vertical TMT bars fell in HBR layout and struck a family of four travelling on a two-wheeler. Fortunately, the husband and the twin daughter survived.

The safety of those working in construction sites of various Namma Metro projects in the city and having to commute around them has come under a cloud after the incident. Reports say that at least 18 accidental deaths related to Namma Metro have taken place since 2009.
