Bengaluru: The ‘My City, My Budget’ report, which included suggestions from citizens, was submitted to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday. The joint venture by Janaagraha and Bengaluru Ward Samiti Balaga included some 16,281 inputs from all 243 wards and would cost an estimated Rs 502 crore, if included in the 2023-24 BBMP budget.

The exercise began on November 24 last year. The dominant theme noted in the suggestions was an improvement of footpaths, roads and drains, making up 67 per cent of the recommendations. Other demands included an adequate number of streetlights in the city, apart from combating climate change.

“We not only intend to take forward the initiative of allocating funds to each ward to address the issues raised by citizens through the MyCityMyBudg et campaign, but also look forward to citizens prioritising and assisting BBMP in implementing the works identified successfully through the Ward Committees, thus moving another step towards institutionalisation of community participation in budgeting and development of the city,” BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath sai
