Bengaluru: In order to address the issues of domestic workers, a domestic workers benefit camp was organised at the Akme Encore Clubhouse main hall today from 10.30 am to 4 pm. The camp was established to help domestic workers get labour cards and to organise government-driven services.
Bengaluru Apartments Association in collaboration with ‘Stree Jagriti Samiti’ held this programme and also created awareness on available schemes. The camp also saw the organisers catering to individuals seeking the ‘Sampatti Card’ which is a financial wellness company for domestic workers.
The card enables creating salary slips to make them eligible for loans and insurance. Domestic workers were asked to carry their photos, bank passbooks, BPL cards, and PAN cards, and about 70 of them registered, with another 120 domestic workers receiving the Smart card and EShram registration.
“As the majority of the women use cash as a medium of transaction, the Sampatti card will help them save money and motivate to go digital. We are trying to get migrants to sign up for these cards so they don’t miss out on the benefits and have proper documentation as most of them are misguided and tend to go broke, a little too easily," Geeta Menon a volunteer at the camp told News Trail,
