Bengaluru: President and Chairman of Mistral Anees Ahmed offers his views on the Union Budget “based on the limited information” he has gathered. “I am pleased to see the starting tax slab limit going up to Rs 7 lakh and some savings provided to the lower middle class and middle class citizens. A saving of Rs 20-30 thousand makes a big difference to people who are in the lower brackets.

Similarly, reducing the highest tax bracket from about 43% to 39% is a move in the right direction. I hope going forward this can be capped at 30%. I just hope they will make the filing and refund process easier and quicker for the common man on the ground. So also, the grievance addressal system should be made far simpler and quicker. Complexity always leads to lower adoption or adherence.

This will be win-win for all. I am happy to see Tourism getting a boost. India has plenty of amazing tourism opportunities, but they are managed very badly leaving tourist fuming. It is very important for Swatch Bharat to show its true colours here. These tourist spots are our window to the world.

Even today, some of the most well-known tourist attractions lack clean toilets. Hope the enhanced funding goes into some of these initiatives. I wasn’t too happy with what has been offered to the Electric Mobility segment. We have to do more for the EV segment by eliminating duties and providing more incentives for electric vehicle/ green vehicle manufacturers, charging infrastructure providers and e-mobility solution providers.

If we have to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel vehicles, we have to do a lot more for this segment. We have to leave this world a better place for future generations. The Infrastructure segment has got the muchneeded leg-up.

Other than highways, I hope we will see some better utilisation of funds for city roads too. Bengaluru is a perfect example of India’s tech capital with the worst infrastructure imaginable! I am definitely not happy with what has been done for Education, Healthcare and Sports. We need a lot more focussed attention here.”
