Bengaluru: Two major fire breakout incidents were reported in the city on Tuesday. The first incident was reported from Malleswaram where a 55-year-old woman was burnt to death as she could not get out of her house in time.
Police identified the deceased as Mary. Police said that the woman was in her kitchen when the accidental fire broke out at her house behind Mantri Mall. Noticing the thick smoke, neighbours alerted the police and the fire department, which rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
After inspecting the spot, police suspect the high flames of the gas stove went out of control and quickly spread across the house through clothes lying around the place. Unable to escape, the woman was trapped in the fire and suffered severe burn injuries.
The police shifted her to Victoria Hospital, but she died without responding to the treatment. Police have registered a case and are investigating it. In the other incident, fire broke out in a commercial building on the outskirts of the city.
Firefighters doused the fire, a police officer said, adding there were no casualties “as of now”. The blaze broke out on the top floor of a multistorey building near Yelahanka, the police said. They said immediately four fire tenders were pressed into service.
"The fire has been doused, while there are no casualties as of now. Many IT companies have offices in the building. Police are ascertaining the reason behind the fire," an official said.
