Students fall ill after consuming food at school

Kolar: Tense moments prevailed at the premises of Moulana Azad School situated near the Clock Tower area in Kolar on Monday afternoon as eight female students of class ten complained of stomach ache and nausea. The students were soon rushed to the nearby Primary Health Centre where they were given preliminary medical aid and were later rushed to SNR Hospital, Kolar for observation.

According to Dr AV Narayanaswamy, Taluk Medical officer these eight students had taken ill on Friday after eating food prepared by the cooks attached to the school. He said there are about 250 students in the school being run by the Social Welfare department.

On Friday, when cooked food went out of stock, the cooks at the school prepared the food fresh and served the same to about ten students. After eating the food the ten students began vomiting. They were soon rushed to SNR Hospital in an ambulance. After initial medical treatment, the doctors at the hospital discharged them late on Friday.

With Saturday and Sunday being holidays for the school, the students returned to school this morning. However eight students among the ten who fell ill on Friday again complained of nausea and stomach ache. Soon they were moved to nearby Primary Health Centre where they were provided medical aid.

Later they were again moved to SNR Hospital. By evening two students who recovered were discharged and the rest of the six students were kept under observation, said the Taluk Medical Officer. He said the students were a bit in a state of panic.

He said the doctors did not want to take any chances and had kept the students under observation. He said steps would be taken to counsel the students before discharging them. He said students need adequate rest and need to follow a food diet.
