Bengaluru: Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath on Wednesday assured 'Citizens for Sankey' that the proposed Sanky flyover would not be started till the Bengaluru Metropolitan Land Transport Authority's (BMLTA) final nod to it.

During a meeting with Citizens for Sankey, the chief of the municipal body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) directed officials to withdraw the Sankey flyover file from the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) BMLTA's further directive on the project. Tushar Girinath assured citizens that the project would not move forward unless cleared by BMLTA.

The proposed Sankey tank bund road widening and flyover is set to cost the city more than 40 heritage trees amidst an already depleting green cover. While local residents have strongly opposed the axing of trees, environmentalists have warned of ecological implications if the authorities go ahead with the move.
