Bengaluru: As the 50 per cent rebate window for the resolution of backlog traffic violation cases drew to a close on Saturday, the Bengaluru traffic police said that they have collected over Rs 12,31,32,060 (until 8:30 pm) by closing 4,25,091 cases of violation in the last 14 days.
The 50 per cent percent discount on e-challan offences pending for the vehicles was first announced by the state government from February 3 to 11. Later encouraged by the positive feedback from the motorists and also because of a whooping collection in fines of Rs 126 crores against 43.35 lakh violations cases, the government restarted the discount on March 4.
"When we started, we had a backlog of about 1.13 crores cases, of which only over 48 lakh cases have been resolved so far. Though the response was overwhelming during the first time, this time it is a little slow," said M A Saleem, Special Commissioner, Traffic, Bengaluru. Overall, the citizens gave positive feedback about the rebate scheme to clear pending traffic violation cases.
