Woman dies, man loses arm in Mys E-way mishap

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway continued to witness tragic accidents with a woman dying on the spot while her friend lost his arm after their bike met with an accident on the expressway on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Priyanka Raju, 32, a native of Tamil Nadu. She was riding pillion on a bike driven by her friend Laxminarayan Gowda, a resident of Hassan.
According to sources the two were colleagues working for TCS, a private firm in Bengaluru. The accident took place in Maddur traffic police station limits while the friends were returning to Bengaluru after a weekend trip to Mysuru. Initial probe has revealed that Gowda was overspeeding on his bike which caused the accident.
Speaking to News Trail, a traffic police official said that Gowda lost control of his bike near Gejjalagere near Maddur taluk. "The impact of the accident was such that the driver's left arm hit the road causing it to be severed at the shoulder joint. He also suffered severe injuries on his neck while the woman died on the spot," the officer said. The body of the woman was shifted to Maddur hospital mortuary.
Later in the evening it was learnt that the rider has slipped into a coma and is battling for his life. A case has been registered at Maddur traffic police station regarding the incident. According to a report, more than 84 people have lost their lives due to the increase in the number of accidents within six months of start of traffic on the expressway
