Bengaluru: A project called ‘Suraksha 75’ has been started by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and municipal traffic police to make the city's intersections safer for pedestrians and commuters. Under the auspices of this mission, 75 crossroads in Bengaluru will be renovated and reconfigured so as to improve safety and aid in efficient traffic movement.

"The city has been developing phenomenally since there are nearly 2000 to 2500 new automobiles entering on city roads every day," Bengaluru Special Commissioner for Traffic MA Saleem stated in a statement. In cooperation with the civic organisation, the Suraksha 75 mission has been started for the efficient management of traffic and the safety of the citizens.

This might completely alter Bengaluru's traffic ecosystem. BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath also urged people to cooperate as there might be some inconvenience during redesigning these junctions.

"We have identified the 75 junctions in the city which are facing continuous traffic woes and Rs 150 crore has been allotted for this in the state budget. All the junctions will be re-designed by BBMP’s engineering cell in a way that they provide safety for pedestrians and commuters. We need support and cooperation from the people of Bengaluru as there might be a temporary inconvenience due to repair works," he said.

The Karnataka government allotted Rs 350 crore for the building of a five-kilometre elevated motorway in Bengaluru at the presentation of the state budget this year to further combat congestion. Moreover, Rs 300 crore were allotted for road building in Bengaluru, while Rs 1,000 crore was approved for the white topping of 120 kilometres.
