Defective computer systems provided to central prisons

Bengaluru: Superintendent of the Central Prisons in Bengaluru has filed a cheating case against a private firm for allegedly supplying defective computer systems to the department. According to sources, a tender was called to supply computer systems and other equipment across various prisons in the state.

A private firm, Vagmina Enterprises, procured the tender with a promise to deliver and install computer systems at the lowest price. Sources from the department told News Trail that an amount of Rs 92,81,250 was paid to the firm towards providing 125 updated computer systems across 37 prisons in Karnataka.

Later when the department authorities decided to conduct an audit, they found around 43 computer systems to be defective and not in working condition. Based on a complaint by the superintendent of the Parappana Agrahara Prison, a case has been registered at the High Grounds Police Station against the private firm for cheating the department.
