White-topping over, now footpath works giving people nightmares

Bengaluru: The in complete footpaths have been affecting the traffic on the roads where the civic workers claim to have finished white-topping in the city.  One of those roads is Gubbi Thotadappa Road in the Majestic area where motorists, as well as pedestrians, are finding it too difficult to use the road.

The white-topping work in the Majestic area by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) went on for the last three to four months. While the road work has been completed, the footpath work is still going on. Due to this, motorists and pedestrians alike are having a tough time. The white topping work has been done from Gubbi Thotadappa Road to Shantala Circle and to Sangolli Rayanna Circle.

From November 19 to December 18 last year, the work was taken up on about the 580-metre stretch of the road. Citizens have expressed outrage over the delay as the incomplete works could cause accidents and motorists and pedestrians have urged the authorities concerned to resolve the traffic issues at the earliest.

"There is heavy traffic on this road and work has been going on for the past four to five months. Every day, we face problems on this road and the traffic police are also bearing the brunt of it," said Punye Gowda, an autorickshaw driver.

"The police do not act to clear traffic on the road. It is very difficult to walk. If an accident occurs, who will take responsibility? For the past 4 to 5 months, the work has been going on," said Seetharama, a local resident.
