Safe Spaces by TedX Bangalore uses art to inspire activism

Bengaluru: With a drive to improve the city of Bengaluru, the Safe Spaces initiative by TedX Bangalore has taken on the challenge of creating a safer environment through the power of art. In today's world, it can be challenging to distinguish between trustworthy information and false propaganda.

The abundance of problems such as digital attacks, healthcare issues and misinformation campaigns can be overwhelming. The objective of Safe Spaces is to inspire activism in society, and it has done so through an impressive exhibition of artworks. On April 22, at the Rangoli Art Center at MG Road metro station, 17 artists, including 3 from Bengaluru, showcased their works that conveyed significant messages about society.

The Exhibition of Justice is a unique display that will be open to the public from April 22 to 30. Maanvi Kapur, a visual artist, expressed the harsh reality of women's rights in society through her artwork. Her artwork highlights the discrimination faced by women based on age, clothes, life choices, success and failure, portraying their journey for justice.

The artwork according to Maanvi Kapur portrays the string underlying women and their journey for justice. Karan Kalra, a Delhi-based visual engineer, created a thoughtprovoking artwork that visualises the compounding effect of many injustices under a corrupted system.

The upcoming TedX Bangalore conference on May 28 will feature several speakers from various fields who will share their insights and ideas on society's pressing issues. From healthcare advocates to justice reformers and independent journalists, the conference will bring together some of the most influential individuals in their respective fields.

Sartaj Anand, the curator of the art exhibition, believes that the arts are just the beginning of the initiative's journey. He intends to continue creating activism for the underlying issues in society through the works of the artists and the upcoming events with TedX Bangalore.
