Villagers boycott elections over ‘absence of basic facilities’

Bengaluru: Residents of a few villages in the State boycotted the Assembly elections held on Wednesday claiming the lack of basic facilities in their neighbourhood. Residents of Chikkalachetti village in Chamarajanagar alleged that they lacked proper road facilities around their neighbourhood. The village falls under the Gundlepete Assembly segment with around 100 voters.

DS Ramesh, the Chamarajanagar DC, held a talk with the villagers and asked them to vote, assuring them their problems would be addressed after the elections. In a similar incident, residents from Donahalli village in Hassan and Chamundeshwari constituency boycotted the polls, also alleging the absence of basic facilities. There are as many as 121 voters in Donahalli village.

While a few residents of Raichur district turned out to vote, a number of them did not. They took the decision over a complaint of “bad roads” in their area. Villagers of Royasandra Koppa in Tumakuru district’s Dodduru tanda demanded basic facilities besides polling booths in their villages.
