Unfinished footpath works irk Vasanth Nagar residents

Bengaluru: The residents of Vasanth Nagar and the vehicle users who drive through the stretch are experiencing life-threatening moments with the poorly managed footpath construction works being underway. The material used for the construction including concrete stones, machines and wastes are lying on the road. It makes the road uneven and gives an off-road experience to the riders.

“They have dug up the road on both sides and shortened the space for the users of the vehicle to pass by. People are forced to walk on the road and there are chances the vehicles might ram them”, said a passerby. Residents and the local shopkeepers said they have made multiple complaints but of no avail.

“The stretch remains untouched for many days by the officials except for bringing materials to construct the footpath”, said Ramaiah, a resident. A retired government servant Ramaiah also alleged that the construction work of the footpath had come to a standstill for many days and affected the entry to his residence.

“As you can see, the way to my residence is almost blocked with stones and debris. There are huge traffic congestions during the night over the incomplete work”, he said. “It is continuing to be the same condition for many days. Many bike riders have almost experienced death while riding through the stretch whenever it rains and with the huge traffic. The mud and wastes lying here are a great threat as it gets slippery on rainy days”, Sathik, an auto driver said.

A BBMP official who didn’t wish to be named told News Trail that works are underway and it was delayed due to the election and amid the sudden spell of rains in the city. While the entire road is riddled with construction materials and the works are going at a snail’s pace, the residents, vehicle users, and others question the credibility of the official’s work.
