Bengaluru: A police constable who resumed his election duty on the polling day shortly after completing the final rites of his deceased mother has earned the public appreciation. Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood and ADGP Law and Order, Alok Kumar, Central MP P C Mohan, and the general public lauded the constable's dutifulness and sincerity to work.

In a bid to highlight the sincerity of the cop, P C Mohan, on Twitter, said, “This policeman was assigned to serve during the Karnataka Assembly Election 2023. He received the devastating news of his mother’s demise while on duty today morning. But he refused to take a leave valuing his sense of duty over his grief. Hats off”.

The Kar nataka DGP also said the department is proud of the policeman and added he refused to go on leave despite being given the same. “Staying with family in the moments of grief is more important. He resumed his duty after cremating his mother. I’m proud of his sincerity and sense of duty”, Alok Kumar said.

Meanwhile, several social media users have also appreciated and advised others not to encourage such an obsessive work culture. Some of them also said the officer must have been replaced in a situation like this at any cost, adding they can perform their duty in an uncontrollable situation but not on the demise of anyone related to them.
