Bengaluru: On Wednesday, Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Eshwar Khandre along with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board conducted a visit to Bellandur Lake. During the visit, he expressed his concerns regarding the delayed progress in the restoration efforts of the lake.

Khandre emphasised that the accumulation of pollutants and sewage water would have a detrimental impact on the lake's ecosystem. To address this issue, he called upon the responsible departments, such as the BDA and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), to take immediate action.

Khandre provided reassurance that the Bellandur Lake would be completely free of sewage by 2024, and that comprehensive measures to revive and rejuvenate the lake were already being planned by the respective departments.

He further stated, "I have issued instructions to the authorities to implement measures preventing the discharge of untreated water into the lake. Additionally, I have urged them to expedite the cleaning process in line with the directives of the National Green Tribunal. Strict actions will be taken against those who continue to release untreated wastewater into the lake."
