Coming of age spider-man a visual extravaganza

Bengaluru: Given the popularity and success of the first film in this series; Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the hype generated around this sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse wasn’t surprising.

This film continues the story of Miles Morales, the young Afro-Latino teenager who is the Spider-Man of his reality. What we saw in the previous film was only a teaser to what we get to see in this awesomeness filled multiverse escapade. If there is any film that should be watched on the best big screen you can visit, this is it. There is a mix of 3D and 2D that takes you on a ride across the different universes.

The reality that can be the fantasy world of comic books becomes the ultimate storytelling tool in this film that breaches many boundaries in narration. The directors and writers have given every spider-man in the different universes a different background story. There is the Indian spiderman too. There are so many but there is a method in the madness and chaos. There is a spider-man society in which our Miles Morales is not welcome.

But you know we will ultimately need him to save the world er.. multiverse. It is very easy to lose track of the proceedings in the film as there is too much happening with too many storylines and the constant shifting between them. But it is the visual extravaganza that keeps you fixated on the screen. It does not allow you to blink.

The animation and visual experience this film provides is unmatched. Just like you need to keep count of the various spider-men in the film, you will need to count the different kinds of effects that are used in the film. The colours are stunning and look like they invented a few new colours for this film. It is crazy to say the least. Crazier still is the writing.

The fullon energy is transformed on to the screen and it is to be seen to be believed. The story itself has quite a few surprising twists and turns leading to a climax that is both action-packed and emotionally charged. If you can take your eye and mind off the visual wonder, there is some philosophy also thrown in. What makes this film special among animation films is its visual tribute to the original comic books. It is not just the colours and styling, but the visualization that makes it possible.

This is exactly what we wanted from comic book adaptations. This spider-man film has everything that spider-man fans over the decades have come to love and associate the superhero with; coming of age adventure, teenage emotions and a wild escapade.
