Bengaluru: Chairperson of IEEE Bengaluru and professor at IISC, Aloknath De, while addressing the audience at an event organised by the News Trail on World Environmental Day on Monday, warned of microplastics getting into the food chain “Microplastics getting into the food chain have become a problem.

From the large plastics including synthetic fibers, and personal products, the microplastics are getting inside. It however enters into the marine organism and through that, it comes to the human food”, he said. He warned that this could cause failures of gastrointestinal, and disrupts the endocrine.

“It not just affects the digestive system but also the reproductive system”, he added. Further, he went on to say that destroying plastics are monstrous effects and can only be possible with a collective step from humans to not use them. He also stressed that people must take out more awareness programs with scientific research to eradicate the usage of plastics.
