New Delhi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed officials to open at least 250 Indira Canteens in Bengaluru City with one each in every ward of the state capital. He told reporters here on Monday that discussions were held regarding the reopening of Indira Canteens across the State. Earlier, 70 percent of the cost of these canteens was borne by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the rest by the government.
Henceforth, the cost would be shared equally. In other places, the government will bear 70 percent of the cost and the rest 30 percent will be borne by urban local bodies. The officials will have to give a list of places where new canteens could be opened. The menu at Indira Canteens would be changed and officers must strive to maintain good quality, quantity, and cleanliness at the canteens.
The food rates would be the same and the canteens would resume after the completion of tenders. The CM also said an inquiry has been ordered into the deaths of two persons in Koppal and one in Raichur due to the consumption of contaminated water. A proper investigation would be carried out and the guilty punished, he added.
