Strict action against those misleading people on free schemes

Bengaluru: Following several reports of conmen and fake websites claiming to help people register for free schemes announced by the Karnataka government, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police has warned of strict action against those involved in duping people.

Speaking to News Trail, Joint Commissioner, CCB, Dr Sharanappa S Dhage said that the citizens in the State can apply for the schemes easily using the Seva Sindhu Portal without any help from middlemen.

"People do not need to install a third-party app or any malicious app on their mobile phones to register for the free schemes. However, if they are confused, the people can visit government centres and get it done," he said.

The CCB official further said that several miscreants have been taking advantage of gullible citizens on the pretext of helping them apply for the Congress guarantee scheme. "We have received complaints from people who have lost money to such miscreants. CCB requested the citizens not to fall prey to fake apps or share your valuable data to any unknown and suspicious persons," he said.

"Fake mobile apps have been created and shared on various social media platforms to attract the people by promising to help them apply for a free government scheme," he added. Sharanappa also said efforts are on to identify and nab those miscreants.
