Typing error in FIR suggests 'action against dead body'

Bengaluru: In what could be called a lapse on the part of the Station House Of ficer (SHO), a complainant was shocked when she found that the First Information Report (FIR) filed at the HSR Layout Police Station suggested action against her deceased daughter for her own death.
A resident of HSR Layout, Fazila, had approached the jurisdictional police after her teenage daughter committed suicide allegedly due to the harassment from neighbours. However, it was learnt that the officer at the station who recorded her complaint in Kannada, made a mistake while typing the statement.
Later the complainant pointed out the error in the FIR which said, "...the complainant requested the police to initiate action against the dead body," instead of the person accused. As the name suggests, an FIR is the first information report, and therefore cannot be amended, changed or altered under any circumstances.
However, typing errors such as this can cause problems in the case later. Normally, the Writer or the Station House Officer has to check all FIRs registered in the police station. In this case, the next course of action by the police officers is yet to be seen.
