PIL against Ramachandra Mutt; HC refuses to quash criminal case

Bengaluru: The High Court of Karnataka has refused to quash a criminal proceeding against five persons who are accused of demanding money from the Ramachandra Mutt to withdraw the public interest litigation (PIL) filed against it.
Justice K Natarajan in his judgement dated June 28, dismissed the petition filed by Gopala Sadashiva Gayathri, Rajgopal Addi, Sheshanand Vishweshwara Addi, Amith Nadakarni and Ganapathi Gajanana Hire, the accused numbers 3 to 7 in the case.
“Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the offence committed by the accused cannot be taken in a lighter way as they have filed PIL case and demanded Rs.5.00 crores for withdrawing the said case and were caught red-handed while accepting Rs.10.00 lakh. (CrLP 4835/2021)
