Bengaluru: The National Institute of Open Schooling (Nios) has come under fire after it was revealed that some students who scored more than 33% in the Class X examination were declared fail.

This has caused major inconvenience for the students, who have been left wondering why they were not allowed to pass the exam despite scoring well.

The Nios Class 10 April-May Exams 2023 was conducted from April 6 to May 8, 2023, in a single shift – from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 pm.

The Nios has minimum passing criteria of 33% in the aggregate (Theory plus Practicals where applicable) in the public examination. However, there have been reports of students who scored more than 33%, such as 40% or 45%, being declared fail.

The results have been declared as SYC which is Subject Yet to be Cleared. The Nios has not yet responded to the concerns of the students who have been declared as SYC in some subjects.

However, the students are hoping that the board will reconsider their decision and allow them to pass the exam. This will mean that the students who have scored above 33% and have still been declared as fail will need to either apply for revaluation or reappear for the exam which might be a tedious and demotivating process.

These are students who have dropped out of school and taken the courageous step to give another chance to apply for examinations and a fail remark might turn off their motivation.

This might even prevent students in the future from applying for the Nios examination. In the meantime, the students are calling on the Nios to review its marking criteria and to ensure that all students who score above the minimum passing mark are allowed to pass the exam.

The Nios has a responsibility to ensure that all of its students are treated fairly. It is unacceptable that some students are being declared fail despite scoring well in the exam.

The Nios needs to review its marking criteria and to ensure that all students who score above the minimum passing mark are allowed to pass the exam.

The National Institute of Open Schooling (Nios) is an Indian government organisation that offers open schooling courses at secondary and senior secondary levels.

Nios exams are held twice a year, in April/May and October/November. The exams are conducted in a variety of modes, including online, offline, and remote proctored.

Nios exams are a popular choice for students who want to pursue their education flexibly. The exams are also recognised by many universities and colleges, so students who pass Nios exams can continue their education without any problems.
