Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police launched the Reclaim Footpaths campaign on Monday with the goal of clearing encroachments from footpaths across the city.

The campaign began in all 48 traffic police stations in Bengaluru, and the BTP shared photographs of the staff clearing footpaths and removing obstacles.

In Madivala, the traffic police cleared encroachments from Bommanahalli Junction to Kodichikkanahalli Junction on Begur Road. In Banaswadi, footpaths were cleared on Om Shakti Road. The Mahadevapura Traffic Police cleared encroachments on footpaths on the ITPL Road.

A High Ground Traffic Police team removed encroachments on Cunningham Road footpaths to ease the movement of pedestrians.

In HSR Layout's 5th Main Road, the traffic police removed vehicles parked illegally and small shops on footpaths. Vehicles parked illegally on footpaths on the Bhadrappa Layout Service Road were removed by the Hebbal traffic police.

In the initial stages, the BTP will focus on clearing footpaths on main roads and arterial roads. The BTP will also alert the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in case there is a need to improve any of the footpaths.

The Reclaim Footpaths campaign is a welcome initiative, and it is important that the BTP and the BBMP continue to work together to ensure that footpaths are safe and accessible for pedestrians.
