Bengaluru: In a swift action, the city police keeping an eagle's eye over illegal activities amid the Opposition Unity meet, claimed to have averted another possible act of violence to disturb peace and harmony here.

Based on the information from the State Intelligence Bureau, the Central Crime Branch officials on Wednesday arrested Suhail, Mohammed Faisal Rabbani, Mohammed Umer, Syed Mudassir and Zahed Tabrez for allegedly involving in suspicious activities here.

The suspects were later presented before a court which remanded them to 15-day custody. Police sources told News Trail that the suspects were staying at different locations in Bengaluru including RT Nagar, DJ Halli, Sultanpalya and Kodigehalli Police Station limits.

However they all had gathered at a place in Sultanpalya where the CCB officials conducted a raid early in the morning. As per the police, four of the accused and two women, were living in the house for the last three months.

Along with the firearms and explosives, the police have seized DVRs from near the house of the accused. The neighbours knew very little about the family of Suhail in Sultanpalya. Some of them said that the family had moved to the house just a few weeks ago.

A relative of Suhail said that some people took him away three days ago and that the family knew nothing about this case.

"Suhail was working as a welder, but recently he was unemployed while his wife used to go to work. He was facing two police cases and there was nothing else apart from that. The person named Junaid might be framing him," he alleged.

Junaid, the main suspect, who is currently living abroad, was arrested along with 21 others in 2017 in connection with the murder of Noor Ahmed in RT Nagar. In 2020, he was arrested again along with his parents in a sandalwood smuggling case.

A case was registered against Junaid in 2021 under sections 399 and 402 (preparation and assembling to commit dacoity), but he had absconded before his arrest.

The Bengaluru police suspect that Suhail and the other suspects must have been radicalised by another terror suspect while in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison through Junaid.

Joint Commissioner of Police, CCB, Sharanappa S Dhage said that the CCB had been keeping a tab on the suspects after they received an alert from the intelligence bureau.

Meanwhile call details from the mobile phones and WhatsApp messages are being collected by the investigating officers.
