Engineer takes to robbing, arrested by city police

Bengaluru: Baiyappanahalli police arrested an engineer-turnedrobber and confiscated 512 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 29 lakh from his possession here.
The police identified the accused as Mahamani, 37, a native of Tamil Nadu and a graduate of Electronics Engineering (BE).
It was also revealed that he had been working with the Nokia company in Chennai. However, he was fired from his job in 2019 and was unable to find any other employment.
An unemployed Mahamani took to thieving and began conducting a recce of areas to identify locked houses, police said. In the night he would gain entry into these houses by breaking open the door with an iron rod and would flee with the valuables.
Police said that the accused was involved in House Break-in Theft incidents in Bengaluru while there are similar cases registered against him at various police stations of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
