Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar disclosed that the State government’s Gruha Lakshmi Yojane would be launched on August 27 instead of 20th of the same month as was revealed earlier.
He pointed out that the registration was a continuous process and there would be no last date for the same. Under the scheme, women can avail Rs 2,000 monthly as allowance.
The programme is open to women with Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) cards as long as their spouses don’t pay income tax.
The Deputy CM said that the scheme would be officially launched in Belagavi with All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge and the party’s Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi in attendance.
“We have decided to launch the Gruha Lakshmi scheme from August 27 instead of August 20 as per everyone’s convenience in some 11,000 locations across the state. For the one crore and five lakh beneficiaries who have already registered, the amount for the month of August would be credited to their accounts,” Shivakumar told mediapersons, adding that the decision was taken after consulting Cabinet colleagues like Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister Priyank Kharge and Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
The scheme is likely to cost the state exchequer an estimated Rs 30,000 crore, making it the most expensive of the five guarantees.
