Distributors of contaminated cough syrup bribed to skip mandatory test: Uzbekistan
NT Bureau, Agencies
New Delhi: State prosecutors in Uzbekistan have asserted that the distributors of an Indian-produced cough syrup, which tragically resulted in the deaths of 65 children within the country, provided a $33,000 bribe to local officials, according to a media report.
This alleged bribery was intended to bypass the obligatory testing that the cough syrup, known as 'Doc-1 Max' and manufactured by the Indian company Marion Biotech based in Noida, should have undergone.
Notably, the cited number of fatalities connected to the cough syrup presented in court is significantly higher than previously reported figures in the nation.
Those undergoing trial include three individuals, one of whom is of Indian nationality, associated with Quramax Medical.
This company was engaged in the sale of medications produced by Marion Biotech within Uzbekistan.
