Will stay for 5 years: Home min on Muniyappa comment

Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday made it clear that he intended to see out the full five-year term under his portfolio.

He made the remarks when questioned by mediapersons about Cabinet colleague and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies KH Muniyappa saying he’d step down after two and a half years.

Muniyappa had advised fellow experienced ministers to make way for fresh blood as well, adding that it would be understandable for first term ministers to stay the full term.

“While I take no issue with Muniyappa's statement, I myself am not inclined to do the same. It is his individual opinion,” Parameshwara said.

Muniyappa made the comments at the general body meeting of the KPCC on Monday, raising many an eyebrow.

“Empowering everyone is necessary to bolster the party's strength. I am willing to step down from my ministerial role without objections,” he’d said.

Interestingly, Muniyappa, a seven-time MP from Kolar, had lost from the seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and decided to shift to state politics.
