Bengaluru, Dec. 18 Due to steep rise in the raw materials, Peenya Industries Association (PIA) along with other associations in Karnataka, has decided to call for a peaceful bandh on Monday.

PIA President B.Muralikrishna has requested the entrepreneurs to close their industrial units and to support the peaceful demonstration at 11:00 am. More than 10,000 SME units are expected to remain closed during the one-day bandh.

While on one hand the economy has slowed down due to Covid-19 pandemic, the industries have to contend with a steep rise in prices of raw materials. This had even led to the closure of many industrial units.

According to the PIA, “In coordination with other associations that are participating is estimated to be around 170 MSME Associations - Pan India called for closure for one-day of all industries and one-hour peaceful demonstrations in front of the Collectorate /District Magistrate offices. It is decided to shut down industries at the national level against the steep hike in raw material prices. Peenya Industrial Area is the largest MSME sector in South Asia with over 10,000 industries covering 48 square kilometres, and 6,500 members were registered under its umbrella.”

It has urged that the both Central and State Governments should work together to protect the Micro and Small and medium enterprises, that provide employment to nearly 70% industrial workforce in the country. It is only next to the agricultural sector in terms of providing livelihoods.
