Bengaluru: A forensic exper t study at Victoria Hospital in the city has highlighted the risk factors of using gas geysers without following proper safety precautions.

The study also warned that purchasing substandard gas geysers may prove fatal.

Over the years, the hospital in Bengaluru has witnessed a huge number of cases where people have lost their lives after inhaling poisonous gases emitted by cheap quality gas geysers installed in their bathrooms.

In June, News Trail had reported about a young couple who were about to get married were found dead in the bathroom of a house on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Later, a police probe revealed that the two had died of inhaling carbon monoxide that may have leaked from a substandard gas geyser.

The police said that the windows and door of the bathroom were locked while the gas geyser was in use. Dr Venkat Raghav, the head of forensic science at Victoria Hospital, explaining about the risk factors, said, “People in cities adopt modern lifestyles and culture. Everything is constantly changing, from dressing sense to interior designs of bathrooms. Such a lifestyle is taking a toll on people’s lives. These facts have been revealed in a study conducted by forensic specialists," he said.

The forensic expert further added that he has come across at least 15-20 such cases and 8-10 of them were reported in the districts this year.

"The major reason for this is that people are still using substandard gas geysers," he said.

Dr Venkat suggests the public purchase good quality geysers. There is a need to take safety precautions, including keeping gas cylinders outside the bathroom and ensuring enough ventilation.
