Gang arrested for extortion, kidnapping

Bengaluru: Marathahalli police have arrested a notorious gang involving seven members on kidnapping and extortion charges in the city.

The accused identified as Mohan, Naveen, Puneeth, Abhi, Rupesh and two others, had complaints of extortion filed against them.

Speaking to News Trail, the police said that the gang had recently organised a booze party at a cemetery for enjoyment and to celebrate the birthday of one of the members.

Following the celebration, a drunk Rupesh created ruckus and started threatening several street vendors in the area. It was learnt that during the chaos, Rupesh assaulted one person, Tarun, and stabbed his hand using a key.

The gang then attacked and abducted another person, Mahesh, on his bike and took him to an isolated spot before robbing him of his mobile phone and cash.

Tarun approached the police station and filed a complaint against the gang based on which the miscreants were arrested.

Taking the matter seriously, the police scanned the CCTV cameras and tracked the gang. Further probe is underway
