Cops school students on road safety, cybercrimes

Bengaluru: Amid their regular policing and busy schedule, the Magadi Road police have taken time out to be with students of five colleges and eight schools to educate them about cybercrimes, drugs, bullying, stalking girl students, ragging, riding vehicles in rash and negligent manner.
The awareness programme began on Tuesday and will last for a week. The police inspector and three police sub-inspectors including two women police sub-inspectors have been visiting the colleges and schools and are educating the students. This initiative is being conducted as part of the crime prevention month which falls in December every year.
“The response of the students is really appreciative. While they were being educated, the students asked multiple questions. The students have been told that if they encounter any crimes, they should immediately bring it to the notice of their teachers who will then approach the police. Pamphlets with do’s and don’ts were printed and distributed among the students. They have been requested to safely keep the pamphlets with them which have the telephone numbers of the police inspector, control room number of the West division along with the police station number. They have been told to call the given numbers any time of the day if they face any kind of problems,” G.T. Srinivas, inspector, Magadi Road police station told NT.
College students were made aware about cybercrimes, drugs, and ragging. For school students awareness on bullying, problems by strangers, suspicious people near schools was given.
“The college students were educated about dealing with friend requests by unknown people on Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media accounts and to be careful with such accounts. The students were told to refrain from sharing their private information on social network sites and also to lock their profile if at all they prefer to share any private information. They have been told to call the numbers given in the pamphlet if they find anything about drugs or drug peddlers as the latter wander near educational institutions targeting the student community,” the inspector said.
Even the school students have been advised not to touch any object or eatables which they are not familiar with.
The students also cleared their doubts by asking multiple questions to the police officers. The police who have printed about 5,000 pamphlets.
National Public School in Rajajinagar, East West Public School, Sri Chaitanya School and college, Venkat International Public School, Rajajinagar Parents Association which has both school and college come in Magadi Road police station jurisdiction.
