Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has made a decision to ban private vehicles from entering Nandi Hills, a popular weekend destination, in an effort to enhance the tourist experience and preserve the natural beauty of the area.

The government aims to transform Nandi Hills into a prominent one-day tourism destination within the next 6-8 months.

Nandi Hills, situated more than 60 kilometers from Bengaluru, frequently experiences heavy traffic congestion, prompting the authorities to take action and implement alternative transportation solutions.

In accordance with a proposal from the Department of Tourism, private vehicles will be replaced by electric buses, providing visitors with a smooth and environmentally friendly travel experience.

By limiting traffic and reducing congestion in the area, the authorities hope to create a safe environment that allows travelers to fully appreciate the scenic beauty and historical significance of the location.

Given the accident-prone nature of the region, authorities had previously imposed a ban on bikers and four-wheelers from accessing the 2-kilometer stretch connecting the hills to the plains during major holidays like New Year.

Instead of using their own vehicles, visitors can now board the electric buses to reach the hilltop from the foothills. One of the proposed attractions for adventurous tourists is a cable car option, which will offer a unique and thrilling experience when visiting Nandi Hills.

Initial estimates suggest that the cost of a cable car ride will be approximately Rs 250-300 per person.

Additionally, the government plans to enhance the appeal of Nandi Hills by introducing night lighting and sound-and-light shows at the 9th-century Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple, further immersing visitors in the rich heritage of the region.
