Bengaluru records three dengue deaths

Bengaluru: For the first time in three years, Bengaluru has recorded three dengue-related deaths, putting Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on their guard.

The civic body said that the victims belong to three different BBMP zones namely South, East and Bommanahalli.

The victims are aged between 30 and 50. However, two of three suffered from comorbidities, making it difficult for them to survive the disease that causes the patients’ platelet count to fall alarmingly.

Since January, the BBMP has registered more than 5,000 cases of dengue and are on high alert. Doctors are of the opinion that the old adage “prevention is better than cure” applies to dengue.

Since the disease is spread by mosquitoes, citizens have been asked to ensure that stagnant water isn’t left lying around inside or near their houses for the insects to breed.
