Karnataka CID launches new app for speedy disposal of pending cases

Bengaluru: In order to ensure the fast and timely disposal of digital crime cases, the Karnataka Crime Investigation Department (CID) has launched a new application called Case Management System (CMS) to get comprehensive information on cases recommended by the state government at its fingertips.
The CID investigates thousands of cases recommended by the state government including custodial deaths, gruesome murders, financial crimes, examination malpractice scams, human trafficking and massive cyber fraud cases.
In order to get information about these cases, senior officials, the investigating officer or head of the department, needs to be called to get the information directly from them which often takes time.
Now with the CMS app, the procedure will take only a short time as all the information can be obtained at the fingertips of the officials. However this app is available only to a certain level of officers attached to CID who can access it through the given username and password.
How does the CMS app help the CID?
The CMS app will have all the information related to a case including the details, date and location where the case was registered. Date when the case was transferred to CID and the name of the investigating officer.
It will also have the names of the suspects or the accused's in the case along with the amount that has been siphoned off from the victims. The app will carry the name of the fraudulent firms, the investigation officers details along with information on witnesses and evidence.
The app will display the locations where the investigation officers had been to for their inspections and the persons contacted by them. Along with this, the app will show the next summons from the court and the previous date of hearing on the case.
An official said that the information will be recorded in the app by the concerned department officials. In the last ten years, around 973 cases were at the "incomplete investigation" stage.
In the last five to six months, more than 190 cases have been completed, the official said. In most cases, investigation is still pending due to the transfers of the police officials and dozens of other cases have been stayed by the court.
CID has six divisions including financial crimes, special investigation teams, high profile murder, fraud, scams and human trafficking. According to sources, at least 100 cases are under investigation in each division.
In many cases, the investigating officers would have recorded additional information related to the case and statements of important witnesses. However when the case is heard in the court, the statement of the witness or eyewitnesses is likely to change.
Also, often when the DySP and Inspector are transferred, the new officers who come to that place have to go through the file for days to understand the seriousness of the case.
The mobile app has been designed with the sole purpose of following up the cases without any delay or hurdles.
