Gold smuggling operation foiled at KIA

Bengaluru: Customs officials intercepted substantial quantity of illegally smuggled gold at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in the city.

The contraband was discovered on a flight that had just arrived from Dubai, sources from the customs said on Sunday. On September 9, a meticulously executed search operation, guided by a detailed profiling procedure, uncovered a cache of gold.

The ingenious smugglers had concealed 2.8 kilograms of gold within a soluble paste, wrapped in layers of insulation tape.

This yellow metal was discovered concealed beneath the smugglers’ waist belts. Authoraties acted swiftly, apprehending both individuals involved in the brazen attempt to evade customs regulations.
