Bengaluru: Tamate Karnataka and Bahutva Karnataka organized a series of events in Bengaluru on September 15th to commemorate International Democracy Day.
The events included a reading of the preamble of the Constitution and a street play addressing honour killings.
Additionally, a group of schoolchildren performed songs emphasizing fraternity and Constitutional values, highlighting the significance of unity and cooperation in building a robust democracy.
Participants at the events received copies of the preamble and tote bags adorned with the preamble, encouraging them to read and promote awareness about the Constitution.
These events took place at various locations across the city, including Halasur Metro Station, Jayanagar Metro Station, Fraser Town, Bakshi Garden, and Constitution Circle (Yeshwantpur).
During the event, Tamate Karnataka coordinator, Suresh, expressed his appreciation for the reading of the preamble by the government. However, he stressed the need for more significant efforts to ensure that the Constitution's values are practically upheld.
He noted that despite 74 years of the Constitution being in force, it has yet to find its way into the hearts of all citizens. He urged the necessity to raise awareness about the Constitution and its values, emphasizing the importance of implementing these values in daily life.
Anuradha, the coordinator for Bahutva Karnataka, called for bold government measures to achieve economic and social equality across the nation.
She pointed out that the Constitution promises equality of status and opportunity for all, but many people in the country have not seen this promise fulfilled.
She urged the government to take steps to ensure equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of their caste, religion, or gender.
The events received enthusiastic participation from schoolchildren, college students, and members of the public. Participants expressed their commitment to upholding the Constitution's values and working toward a more just and equitable society
